Punishment fit the crime

I agree with the ost that suggest the punishment fit the crime--that the student be made to work after school to replace the sink. This sounds like an accident--not a deliberate act. I can't even fathoom why the police would be called on this. Is this a student that is continually in trouble and does the principal think it was done on purpose?
