I agree with what Mary said...it's important to be able to read a student's writing, but I'm not teaching it in middle school. I do know teachers who have done it, and to me it seems kind of pointless.

I also agree with the other poster, though. They can either shape it up, or they can lose points. By the time they're in my class, they can practice on their own. Like I said, I have given students handwriting guides, but I don't spend time on it in class.
