Substituting By Sarah S.

Tell your friend to relax, the calmer you are the better. I have substitued and student taught and the key is to be firm while not trying to be their teacher. Sounds crazy but acting like your in charge and the teachers rules don't apply or do not work for you is a mistake. Cool, calm and collected is the way to go. However, she should always know how to get help if neccessary. I had a fist fight break out in class once when I was substituting. After making one student stand outside the room, I called the office. The principal was very pleased with the way I handled the situation and calls me all the time to help out at the school.
