Florida
By Cindy

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, I just got a job in Florida (Broward County), which is the Fort Lauderdale area. I currently reside in New York and it is difficult to find a teaching job here too, so after three years of looking I looked elsewhere.
A lot of the districts in Florida have on-line applications. I know Broward County alone was looking for 2300 teachers to lower class sizes for next year. The school years typically start in early to mid August and end in late May. Starting salaries seem to be in the low 30,000 for most districts in Florida, but some are higher depending on the cost of living. In doing my research, it seems
that Fort Lauderdale's cost of living is high compared to other cities in Florida. I also know that Broward offers a volunteer mentoring program for new teachers.

I would suggest getting going if you have not already started applying. I know that Broward will release their available openings for next school year during the first week of May, but they are already offering contracts.

A friend of mine is currently searching for jobs in Georgia. He has gone down there twice to attend job fairs, but hasn't gotten anything offered to him yet.

I hear Nevada, esp. the Las Vegas area is always in need to teachers.
