Teaching in Florida By Sandy

First of all, congratulations on nearing the end of your ed. preparation! I live and teach in Florida but also have friends who teach in Georgia. Georgia has come a long way in the past few years, especially in salary| but I don't know about other factors. I do know they have "pirated" many, many Florida educators who live in the panhandle area. Florida schools vary by district (county) though there are some state mandates that apply. The voters recently passed a constitutional amendment to lower class size but it will be phased in over the next few years and will be costly. There are also other | | political issues about it in the forefront. I teach in central Florida and we have good support. Schools are being built every year to meet the growth in population but again, it depends upon where you go. My foremost suggestion to you would be to contact the State Department of Education, Teacher Certification office if you are thinking of Florida. Once you provide them with all your transcripts/credentials/etc. they will send you a letter stating your level of employability. You must have this letter before most school districts will accept your application. I know we have hired several teachers at my school just this year from out of state and the demand for teachers in our area is great. In our district alone we always start the school year short 75-100 teachers. I know this info is rather general but feel free to email me if you want any other more specific info. Good luck!
