Retention
By Robin

Clip to ScrapBook
I actually have the priviledge of working at the same school as Dr. Light and he is great! I have used his retention scale many times.

Our school district is very anti-retention. All of the items stated in previous messages
above are a great starting point in looking at a possible candidate for retention.

Within our district, we must also be doing interventions for a certain amount of time (sometimes half the school year), be in contact with our Resource teacher, Assistant Prinicpal, and parents, and follow our student study process which may further entail testing of behavior and academics.

Even

with all this, our parents have the final say. I have had district permission twice to retain in the last 8 years and both times parents denied my requests.

Check your policies at your school and district level. They may have a prescribed protocol that must be followed.
