Here in CA our students start at 8:35 and leave at 2:45. Our contract for the teachers is 30 minutes before and after school. Most put in many more hours than that. We have a 40 min. duty free lunch and rotate yard duties (2 primary 15 min., 1 upper grade 15 min.). Our aides do before school and lunch duty. Students usually do not come in before school unless they have work to make up etc. Our union bargains regularly with our input to enable us to have this schedule.
