colors and a song By RebeccaK

I am not sure if this will help much but it might be something to try. Years ago (I can't remember the source!) I learned a bit about a method that uses blue for consonants and red for vowels. I try to keep these colors| the same for as many displays as possible. (for example, I always put up corresponding numbers under the alphabet letters on the wall; I purchase a set of red/set of blue from the teacher store calendar section and just split the set so that the numbers under the vowels are red, consonants are blue.) There's also the "Old McDonald" song about vowels: Old McDonald had a vowel, a-e-i-o-u. | | You can adapt this song to say Old McDonald had a long a..... a-a-a-a-a. Get creative filling in the rest of the verses!Sometimes I even do short vowels by saying "Old McDonald had a short vowel, [and then I say the short vowel sounds.... a, eh, ih, ah, uh.]" (I hope some of this made sense, I realize both these ideas are easier to explain with speech and not in writing!)
