Assessment Strategies
By Susie

Clip to ScrapBook
I have had both excellent and less than excellent student teachers. When I had one that struggled, I used some assessment strategies to help. I had the student teacher assess herself. I assessed her as well. (We both used
the university's assessment tool.) Then I had my students also assess (without signing their names)using a very simple tool asking questions such as:
What does (name)do that you like?
What lesson was your favorite and why?
What lesson didn't you like and why?
Do you have any advice for (name)?
Kids are very honest and sometimes their assessments can
be eye openers. All of these tools together made for a great springboard for conversation. They also would have helped me justify to the university what grade I assigned.
Hope this can be of help to you or others!
