Child Lures By MrsP

At my school, the kindergarten, first grade and second grade teacher (that's me) taught the Child Lures program together one morning a week. There was a lot of preparation and planning. Yes there were many sensitive subjects.| We had to scale back or modify many of the lessons to age appropriate level so the students could comprehend the lesson. We always started out reading a book to the group that was related to the subject that we were going to discuss. Then we would briefly discuss the situation. For many of the lessons that were not so sensitive or personal, the three teachers often role played the | | situation that was in the lesson. Especially the lessons about strangers, answering the doors at your house, taking drugs and so forth and so on. We would do an initial role play, using any props that were related to the lesson, and then pointing out what was wrong and how to make better choices. Then we would role play again, the same situation and the students would direct what was the right and wrong thing to do. This was on ongoing way to assess the students understanding of what we were trying to teach. The role playing and props keep them interested and involved in the lessons. Then we would ask the questions that came with the lesson, to assess their understanding. We always ended the sessions by watching a children's video that pertained to the topic we were covering. (Bernstein Bears has a great selection) Every week we had to write up the lesson plan for our principal to pass in to the diocesan office. The superintendent of curriculum commented that we were doing a fantastic job.I hope this information helps you.
