I know that I've seen districts from Maryland coming to our Teacher Fair in New York every year so there open positions. Do an internet search of districts in your state and check out what the job outlook is like. If the| openings aren't there, then consider relocating. I'm moving to Florida because jobs are so scarce in New York (especially the Western NY area). I understand about loving your job due to the money and I'm sure there are other factors. Consider this: is it possible to take on another job working with elem. children, even if its only one day a week? Maybe you could work at an after-school | | program? Also, if you're that worried about sometimes you have to just take the pluge and get a job to gain experience even if it means lower pay. Most of my jobs have been low paying, but I did it because I loved what I did and I did it for experience. Trust me, making $2000 for 10 weeks of work as a camp counselor (8 hours a day) is no cup of tea, but you don't work there for the money. I worked there because I loved what I did.Since I have been applying for three years, I have noticed this about districts....student teaching and contracted teaching seem to be the two most important experiences. Almsot every job I ever worked was with children, but have never held a contracted position. I work as a toddler teacher at a day care instead. It's up to you. I say gain experience whereever you can, but it seems to me that the most important are student and contract teaching experiences.
