The kids voted on a mascot. I found a black and white clip art and made large 8x10 copy of it. You can put it on an opaque projector or overhead and trace it on the back of the shirts. On the front I put their last name and mailbox number to make it look like a jersey. They traced over it with puffy paint. I only had to buy 2 or 3 bottles and had leftover. Lighter shirts work better to trace - just used a permanent marker.
