nasty coworkers By 1st year teacher

She sounds out of line! She is belittling your students in front of them. It's one thing that she's saying things to you (you have every right to be upset, but you're an adult), but she has no right to be talking like that| in front of your students. Can you imagine what parents would think or do if they heard someone talking to/about their child like that?? I'd be furious. I'm having problems with a co-worker too who is older and has been teaching for quite awhile (see my post a few above). I just want to tell her to wake up and get a reality check. If they're that burnt out then do something else. Maybe | | she's intimidated by a first year teacher. Generally my school has been teachers who've taught for at least 10 years. Just this year 5 new teachers were hired (no regular ed. teachers had been hired for at least 6 years). I've come in with some new, fresh, exciting ideas, and I think that intimidates my co-teacher. She always tries to squish my ideas by finding a small part that might go wrong. You are not being too sensitive. She is just being plain old rude. As difficult as it may be to confront her, maybe you should speak to her privately in a professional and respectful manner. I've learned not to stoop to my co-teachers level. I try to be the mature one about our situation even though I'm HALF HER AGE. Obviously age doesn't always matter. Maybe if you politely bring it to her attention, things may improve. You never know...I suppose it's worth a try...especially for the sake of your students who do not deserve that regardless of their behavior. Good luck!
