Respectfully disagree
By Cathy G.

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi All,

With all due respect... I must disagree with you. I too have had wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experiences with subing, and some not so wonderful experiences.... I was in a 5th grade class the other day, in a
pretty decent part of town... and the class was 99% white... I had some kids that just made my life miserable... some white kids...

I know you said there were exceptions.... Because I haven't been subing all that long, I am only making observations at this point, but I am really beginning to think that it is the amount of discipline that a normal teacher instills on a daily baisis that

is a determining factor for the sub... I was in a 5th grade class the other day in a different district where the students were just pure angels... the whole Leave to Beaver thing... they were sitting very nice and quietly...

When I was student teaching... my first placement was in a 99 percent second language speaker invironment... The students were always very respecful of me...

When I'm subbing, sometimesI wonder if the normal teacher has put the fear of God in these children to get them to behave with the sub...

I think it has to do with the normal teacher's everyday discipline... not what race they are..
