TAKS
By Alexa

Clip to ScrapBook
First of all, TAKS is the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills it is based on the TEKS for the grade level it is tested in.
TAKS is a reality for all teachers in Texas and even if you teach a non-testing grade you
are also responsible for getting your grade level ready.
You can't be fired for kids failing TAKS but you can be fired for not doing your job. If your whole class or a majority of students failed that reflects on your teaching.
In 3rd grade the students are given 3 chances to pass the test the majority will pass the first or second time. Our district requires all who have to
take the third test to attend summer school.
My philosophy is that if you are really teaching your kids. They will pass. We all know teachers who are just here for a pay check and that attitude does not get your students anywhere. You have to have the mindset that you will do anything to teach your kids. It will also depend on the make up of your campus. My campus is low economic and we usually have several kids who have to take the test the second and third time.
We remediate after the first test and focus on skills and test taking strategies. Let me know if you have more questions.
