i have used shurely before. i did it with 2nd and 5th graders while student teaching. then i taught it for 2 years when i taught 6th grade. my second and fifth graders were hooked into the program. they used the jingles
and they could diagram a sentence. my 6th graders weren't so impressed
in a way i really liked the program. i relearned how to diagram sentences myself. i wasn't a big fan of singing the jingles, and the kids weren't either. the only ones we used were the preposition, adjective and adverb ones. i did like how you use a questioning format in a specific way to diagram a sentence. even
now i don't teach shurley, but i still use the questions when we are diagramming.
overall, i think parts of the program are useful. it's a very dry, very formatted program. if you're into that then it's worth a try.
