magic scrap
By bertie

Clip to ScrapBook
Something similar - I give them one minute, and let them make a "vacuuming sound" while they vacuum the room and pick up all the scraps. 20 little machines make short work of the cleanup. I have one piece of scrap in my
mind and when that arrives in the trash can that child gets to put some beads in the bead jar. (this rewards us all, because when the jar is full, we get a classroom reward) I also have some of those sets from the dollar store with a handle brush and a dustpan, and there are several children who like to use those. When we are doing a messy craft or a cut and paste I hang a bag on the
doorknob for them to put their scraps in, and send a child to the recycle box with it. After a cut and paste they aren't finished till they've cleaned up "scissors, scraps and glue". I've said those 3 words so often they are a mantra now, and they know that's part of the deal. Every Friday just before recess or something fun, we clean our desks out so I don't discover mouldy sandwiches and squishy oranges, or some booklet that was supposed to go home last week.
