quite a difference "K vs. 1st

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach Kindergarten and I would have to say yes there is a big development difference between K and 1st grade. My expectations for a student at the end of our Kindergarten year, is to be firm with all his/her letter sounds to make reading beginner books much easier. Also taken into consideration is a child's focus and independence level of completing work on their own and within the allotted time given. Our first graders get a desk to work at and tables to work at in Kindergarten.
I just promoted one of my students to first grade because she was able to do first grade work, was reading at a first grade level, was able to take a 1st grade level Assessement Math test and passed with 100%.She had great focus and was very mature (emotionallly) for her age.
