| Try doing some projects, something like growing a seed into a plant. Let them use a growth journal to document the changes that take place. Projects work so well with every area of your unit or theme and curriculum. I also have a dictionary for each child. It starts blank at the beginning of the year, accept for a letter of the alphabet at the top of each page. When they ask me how to spell a word, I have them go to our class dictionary and look it up, then they have to put it in their dictionary and draw a picture to go with it. (our class dictionary is Sesame Street.)
