I have found that if you set a behavior goal at the beginning of a lesson and have all the students agree to it, you can hold the students to their agreement throughout the lesson. For example, I set the goal that we would all show respect when someone else was talking. The students agreed they could follow this rule. So, throughout the lesson, if someone was not following the rule, I would remind them of the agreement. As far as the teacher goes, there is not much you can do at this point. Just do your best while you are leading the class.
