I have a class that is extremely smart but extremely noisy. I guess there is a lot going on in their heads that they need to let out. I divided them into teams, and they compete against other teams in the class to get prizes. It works because these kids are also competitive. I give points to teams that are quiet, working, following directions, etc. I know it's rewarding them for what they should be doing anyway, but it helps me.
