Clip to ScrapBook
You are building a common knowledge base of commonalities that average people understand. Example: Your students see it is snowing outside and when you talk about how animals live in polar regions students can grasp the
understanding. When you make that cute, little heart project the kids understand it is for Valentines Day. They see Dad bring mom roses and develop categories and relationships in their mind with the projects from school. In essence, you are building vocabulary and prior knowledge for students to use for comprehension when they read and try to understand later.

Of course, if it is boring

to you then you will project that to the students and then they won't like it. If you feel so strongly about it, skip it and do something else. Something more memorable that builds vocabulary and imprints memories. Make sure it is something hands on and active for them.

You may want to really look into yourself and find out why you dislike these themes so much. It really shouldn't be such a big deal. Most projects are a fun break from the daily grind.
