I hate Read Aloud too
By AW

Clip to ScrapBook
I hate read aloud too. I hate it especially when I have to read aloud to the class. I can't do voices very well. I always look for an audio tape or CD, many Lit. books have these. If you can't find one ask a teacher of
the same grade level. Classroom management is hard without a seating chart. If one isn't left for me I make one really quick as I take roll. A lot of middle schools I sub at send kids to another class to fill out a behavior form. Ask a neighbor teacher if you can send any problem kids to them. This also works great - put a short word like FUN or 5,10,15 and let them earn a little "free"
time at the end of class. If they aren't doing what they are suppose to you erase a letter or time amount. Sometimes it helps to let them "earn" it back. This works great with middle school, heck even HS, since they like to talk to their friends. If you don't want the noise play a silent game like Heads Up 7 Up, 4 corners or silent ball. You'll be the coolest sub in no time! I've used these and kids really respond to it. Good luck!
