If you don't fit, I suggest you attempt to find another placement. I am quite serious. I would be ideal to be where you are comfortable, relaxed and can be the best teacher you can be. Your mentor teacher should not be afaid to speak with you about how others perceive you, nor should he surprise you with his discussions of your character flaws with others. As for going to the principal - don't. She sounds a lot like a woman I worked for, and frankly, I don't trust most women in power. They are cranky and perfectionist and expect you to be just like them. Men in power are different. I am starting my student teaching experience in the coming fall, but this is my second career. Rules of professionalism dictate that new people keep their opinions to themselves, be submissive, and allow a rapport to build before being frank or open in any way. In other words, don't be yourself. Keep your troubles away from the principal. They don't want to hear about troubles early on... it's a bad sign. Wait until they've heard a lot of good things from you and seen you shine before you say anything negative at all. Good luck!
