If they have main idea down, you really are ahead of yourself. Congrats! Try using a bubble map (have you done Thinking Maps?) - they write the main idea in the center bubble, then you can determine how many bubbles/details you want them to generate that support the main idea. Once they have created the thinking map, they can use that to write the paragraph.
