no regrets about quitting
By nc teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I quit a couple of weeks ago and I don't regret it one bit. I couldn't be happier.

I had always thought I'd stay in teaching, but I hadn't realized how stressful the job really is. With the behavior problems (major stress
from the kids - so disrespectful!), the paperwork, admin. and annoying parents, it was too much for me to handle.

The money issue bothered me somewhat. Not that I couldn't live with the salary that I made (I was able to pay the bills, and fortunately I live with my sister), but to go to college for FOUR YEARS and only make 23,000 was ridiculous to me. I mean, I'm sure there must be

people who graduate with just a high school diploma and make more than that! I worked so hard in college and I'm worth more than that. The amount of pay didn't equal the amount of work I had to do.

I now work in an office job that pays about the same as my teaching job and I have no take home work. No lessons, no assessments, no nothing!! It's great!

If teaching wasn't so stressful, I probably would have stayed, but whenever I think about how I'd spend all of my evenings and weekends on work related things, it makes me happy that I left.

Teaching is a job that easily consumes you and I needed to get my life back.
