Re death of student

One morning I go in to sub at a middle school and was asked into the principals office. He explained that a student had committed suicide the night before. He was in my first hour class and the guidance counselor was going in to make the announcement. I was given a written annoucement and, if I had to say anything, was supposed to "follow the script." I think when announcing a death as a sub teacher, make the announcement, express sympathy, and difficult though it may be, go on with class.
