Sink & Float
By Moe

Clip to ScrapBook
For our matter unit I fill a 10 gal. fish tank w/ water. Then we test whether certain solids sink or float. A big log: the kids guess it will sink, but it floats....and so on.

Here are a few tricks:
An orange w/ peel on = floats (air in peel)
Take off the peel = it sinks.

Can of Coke = sinks (weight of sugar)
Can of Diet Coke = floats
(try other soda brands...see what happens)

Good luck & happy sinking!
