Too much grammar By K Brooke

Tell your co-worker NO! Sorry for being so blunt, but I am amazed at the # of teachers who still insist on pouring grammar down the throats of their students despite decades of research that shows studying grammar rules has no correlation to improving students' writing. Actually, studying grammar as a main ingredient of English class is detrimental to student writing because the class could be spending time actually writing and going through the writing process. I guarantee if one teacher spent 3-5 hours each week on grammar and the other spent 3-5 hours on the writing process of real writing assignments, the latter would have far better writers in the end. No wonder kids hate writing.
