Asperger's
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
My son has asperger's too and it can be very challenging. He is now in high school and although each new year he struggles with new teachers and schedules, he has made huge gains behaviorally and even has shown some interested
in girls (social skills!). He has a wonderful teacher who has taken him under her wing and is even going to take him to Europe this summer on a school field trip. Be consistent and expect your child to do one thing at a time, but do it well. We offer assistance when we feel he will be overwhelmed by a task. He does manipulate and I have to be very careful not to feel sorry for
him. Instead, I offer help on how to do the task and might help him get started before I leave him to complete it. He has counseling once a week to help him learn to socialize more appropriately and solve problems. Good luck and don't give up.
