Medication By Jade

Does she get medication at home before she comes to school? In my experience with severely ADHD kids, the larger problems happen right before the next dose is due. Seems odd that she should start the day off with disruptive| behavior. I guess one thing I'd do is to look at my morning routine and if I can identify any things that seem to set her off more than others. When I have tough students like that I know that I need to have more of a morning routine than usual, which is hard because I'm basically genetically disorganized! I wouldn't rule out the "habit" issue because it is possible that something | | she is getting from her behavior is reinforcing enough to make it continue. It might be the attention she gets from the kids or you (negative attention has reinforced bad behavior in some of my students in the past, frustrating though that is) or perhaps it is the control she feels, or something she gets out of her time in the office or the other teacher. My first instinct, though, is the timing of the medication. Do you have a school nurse or counselor involved that can give you some ideas. I'd talk with her parents, too, and see what they have to say. You have empathy--I know how you're feeling!
