What are social studies and science?
By Twinkie

Clip to ScrapBook
Boy, this sure sounds familiar. I just went to a meeting on LA. They talked about all the components of our program and how many minutes we should devote to it. When you factor in all the parts, and meeting individual needs,
and meeting needs of language learners, and all the parts for MATH we found primary have about 15 minutes 4 days a week and upper grades have about 20 minutes to fit in "everything else". That means SS, science, P.E, art and anything else in 15-20 minutes. This information came straight from the "big wigs" downtown. So the message is clear- LA and Math are what we worry about and we
will worry about the rest later when we have to because the test scores are so low. By the way, we do not have an adopted science program and we have had the same SS text for over 10 years!
