We've tried dedicating one afternoon a week to ss/science. It worked for some of the teacher, but not me. Try using ss/science topic in your math and ELA lessons. You can use a textbook instead of a reader or tradebook to find main ideas or whatever. I've been sneaking more in that way this year.
