Clip to ScrapBook
I only have a short moment before I need to leave for school. As a teacher and a mom of a sped kid, I know he wants "normal" stories. No one likes being hit over the head with anything, especially if they already feel different.

However, a couple examples come to mind of recent stories (movies)which may lead to other ideas of books. Finding Nemo is all about overcoming adversity, and the new movie Racing Stripes about zebra who is different was loved by both my sped and non-sped kid.

If I need to talk about a specific thing, I type "special needs" into the fiction data-base of my local college, and

a slew of books come up. Somewhere, I also have a huge list from one of my courses, I will look for it.

With inclusion, having separate stories for children with sped needs kind of grateson the nerves. Everyone needs to overcome something, or deal with adversity, and the more main stream the book, the better. Sped kids are not taught in a vacuum, and their literature should not be "just" for them, either.

Hope this helps!
