reading journals

Clip to ScrapBook
We write in our journals daily. Each child has a box of books at his/her level. They choose a book and read it. In the journal, they write the date, the title (underlined), and the author (illustrator will come later.) Then they write something the book made them think about or their favorite part. When we studied characters, they had to list the characters from their book. When we studied naming words, they had to find those in their book. The last thing is always a picture. They have all gotten very good at this. Even my non-English can follow the process although they copy a sentence for the actual "response" part.
