Math curriculum
By Robin

Clip to ScrapBook
You're not crazy. I teach third also, and we are considering a new math series. When I looked at the geometry section in the new series, they teach terms like "scalene" and "isoceles" for the triangles and expect the kids to remember things I didn't learn until 10th grade geometry at this level. I haven't checked out the fractions section of the book, but I would be willing to bet that they have shifted from strips in our present series to common denominators. Also, in our present series, it is enough for the kids to recognize greater than 90 degrees, right angles, and less than 90 degrees. In the new book, they have to know obtuse and acute angles as well as right.
