basals and state testing
By ABC123

Clip to ScrapBook
Test-taking skills -- I have to say that's a reason I've stayed with the basal so long. One thing I've had to work at regardless of grade level is how to answer multiple choice questions. Have you gone over test-taking strategies with these kids?

Here are some test-taking helpers that have worked for me: Having kids use whisper phones to read questions aloud, working one-on-one during test time to model putting each word in the blank to answer vocab questions and crossing out the ones that don't make sense, going back into the story and writing down the page number where the answers are found next to the test question. I've had trouble making my kids use their reading book to take tests, but the page number thing helps many of them.
