SAT-9 or 10
By Barb

Clip to ScrapBook
There is a site called AGS (a publisher) that has a book called "Taking the Terror out of the Stanford-9". On their site you can request samples of the book (and many other samples, some printable pages that I use at parent
night as examples too). I used the sample books and made them into questions for the kids. The previous post explained some of the questions well. Our district also provides a mirror test (from Harcourt???) We are taking the Stanford -10 this year. We were told that it is now in color and that it is not timed...we shall see. Make sure your students know how to go back and find information
in passages, recipes, invitations, and to read a chart or diagram. Phonics: they need to find words with the same sound (not the same letter). They also multiple meaning words. The question I remember is something like: Matt gooo a new watch for his birthday. Which sentence uses the underlined word (watch)the same way. The choices use the word watch as a verb and as a noun and the kids have to find the sentence where it was used as a noun. I agree with the previous post about the math portion (only one part is this way)...We can only read the problem once and they have to KNOW to write down numbers as I speak and then figure out if they need to add/ssubtract. This takes lots of practice! The rest is mainly comprehension. I only remember one question in the last 3 years on time or money but regrouping is essential. When we get the new mirror thest, I will give you more specific ideas of what to practice. Other than the part where the teacher has to verbally read questions aloud, most text books cover all they need to know for math.
