Count & Clean... By Melissa
|
|
Whether we're cleaning up from small groups, centers, etc...I turn off the lights and say "Hands go up!" The children have to stop what they're doing, put their eyes & ears on me, and their hands in the air. When I have their attention, I tell them that it's time to "count & clean". This way the kids aren't talking, & their forced to stop what they're doing and come straight to the carpet. This is great for practicing rote counting to 30, counting backwards from 10 or 20, or even skip counting by 2s, 5, or 10s! Make sure you set clear expectations as to when you want them back on the carpet (by 20, 30, 0, etc.).
