I teach grade one, and its really tough to give them a science, social or health test that's simple enough for them to read, but where they can actually write down what they've learned. Now we send our tests home and ask the parents to read the questions and scribe their child's answers. This way each child gets a one on one oral test, and I can still tell if they've been listening. And if the child gets an answer wrong and the parent gives them a mini lesson on road signs or the four food groups, bonus! Use a label program to print your kids names on several sheets of sticky labels. This saves you from printing on all those scribblers, folders, and locker tags - just slip on a sticker!
