You could try giving her some reading comprehension activities. In my experience, students typically comprehend at a grade level or two behind their decoding level. The Spectrum Reading Series, available at most teacher| supply stores, has some great story comprehension activities. I use these with my gifted students. My high first graders, most of whom are reading at a 3rd or 4th grade level, are halfway through the second grade book, and they're really learning a lot of critical thinking skills that they didn't have before, despite being good readers. You could also have her read through a book and |
| do activities with it. I know you can get unit guides to enrichment activities with specific books from teacher supply stores, too.Check out your local supply store for other awesome books and resources for gifted students. Practice with critical thinking skills are a must for these kids, and there are a lot of great books on the market. If you want to do a Friday Fun Day or something with her, you can also give her puzzles to put together that are more complicated than the usual kindergarten fare. The spatial skills that you use with puzzles are great for enrichment, and gifted kids frequently enjoy this kind of thing. Also, if you have enough time with her, you could find some simple science experiments and help her through the scientific method with them.
