Boring?
By CAM

Clip to ScrapBook
Yes, they need exposure to books, but if you "teach the book," you will lose them about Tuesday of the second week. Get a copy of your states mandated objectives and plan around that instead of the book.
Textbooks are good for maps, charts, pictures, and SHORT reading assignments. "Read Chapter __ and answer the Chapter Review questions" is what is killing the love of exploring for kids! Check out the ideas for travel projects recently posted on this site.
Maybe you should work first on adjusting your thinking (Boring!!) and then, when you are ready to try some new ideas, tell the kids that you want to make the class more interesting, and ask for a chance and their help. They'll learn more and you will go home happier.
