Oh yeah, Mrs. X
By seagreen

Clip to ScrapBook
I hear you. About two-thirds of my current core middle school class had the same teacher last year, and a handful of them talk about her constantly.

She taught them from every book I have access to.

She had spelling tests
every week. I instituted spelling tests in response to popular demand. Hers were better. (Question: how good can a spelling test BE?)

She let them do projects. (My projects are not cool like hers.)

She made everyone be quiet and do their work.

She took them ice-skating.

She had monitors every week. Why don't I have monitors?

I haven't come up with a really good solution. With

the kids, I have tried simply saying things like 'this is the way we're going to do it this year', or 'well, that sounds nice. She was a really good teacher, wasn't she?' I try to stay relaxed, and act as though I don't get what I think the point is, that they wish I'd imitate Mrs. X in order to be a better teacher.

I don't know if this helps, but I do just keep trying to stay cool about this.
