confused

I'm a little confused, Jude, because I think we're talking about two different books or programs--or the publisher has come out with something since I was in college.

OR--the WW to which you refer means writer's workshop.
That's it, isn't it? Well, okay: it sounds like you're doing a fine job. Have them take a story or two to completion, but be sure to have them share it and workshop it with a partner. You will need to model how to do this for them.

I have a question--I also teach sixth, and I am so burdened by essays that are required, I hardly have any time at all for creative writing. Do you

not have lots of required essays? Or do you only teach them writing, so you have time for all the fiction? I'm just jealous, that's all. :-)

So, I can tell you about prewriting for essays better than fiction. They can prewrite any way they want to, but they have to turn it into an outline, which must be followed and turned in, as well. The nice thing about teaching outlining is it naturally teaches paragraphing--a new Roman numeral, bullet, whatever, is a new paragraph.

This thread was started about a book called Words Their Way--you might like it. It's a spelling program.
