I'm teaching a class of kinders right now - I don't typically teach students this young. I have found that most of them can count to 20 like champs. Most of them can count out 20 blocks like champs. However, if you show them a number and ask them to reproduce it with blocks they can't do it b/c they don't recognize the number in symbolic form. They are definitely discrete skills. Let us know how your tests fair!
