Teaching generalizations

You're right! I've found that having them master the clue words first really works. That way, as long as they use a clue word, they'll say a generalization. I also create several real-life examples about parents, Christmas, being punished, etc. for them to understand. This is probably the skill that we practice & practice the most in 4th grade!
