theories
By Mary

Clip to ScrapBook
Thank you, science teacher. I make that same point all the time, and in fact, there's a big argument on page two of this board where I also said that. Let me add to it a little: Have you ever heard of atomic THEORY? Yes,
it's a theory that hydrogen and oxygen, in the right proportions, constitutes water. Yet no one minds that we teach it as fact. Gravity is just a theory, too, but you don't object to that being taught as fact, do you? Please don't confuse "theory" and "hypothesis." They're not synonyms, at all. If evolution were a hypothesis, then you would be right, it would be messed up to teach
it as fact, but evolution is a THEORY and a theory is something for which the evidence is absolutely overwhelming. In order for us to change our minds about a theory, truly earth-shaking evidence would need to be introduced.

And why, why, why does evolution conflict with Christianity? That has never made any sense at all to me. Since when does religion require us to ignore the fossil record, ignore microbiology (where you can see evolution in action, right before your very eyes), and just plain refuse to face facts? Why doesn't evolution qualify as a miracle in your eyes? It does in mine.
