With teaching these days you often have to be willing to move or look elsewhere for positions. Smaller communities for example often have more openings than cities do.

A key point is not to get caught in the subbing trap for too long - by this I mean once you've been subbing for 3 or more years - it is more cost effective for a school division to hire someone new out of college than to hire someone who has been subbing for a few years. Plus it is often difficult to get good subs so if you become labeled as such they may not want to move you into a full-time position.

Subbing is great for a year or two at most.
