"No Time"
By Lisa WA

Clip to ScrapBook
I got so fed up with this excuse with my group of highly capable kids last year that I responded with, "Okay. During study room today, you will write me a detailed schedule from 3:00 when you left the building until 9:00 when you went to bed. If you can truly prove that there wasn't 30 minutes in your day that you could have made the choice to do your homework, I'll excuse it." Since he knew he'd be losing recess and going to study room until I had the schedule, he completed it. Guess what? 2 hours of TV!! :-) That was the end of the "But I didn't have time excuse" for my WHOLE class! Word spread and nobody wanted to try to justify it!
