Me too
By Jade

Clip to ScrapBook
I have that series, too, and rarely have them read just a part because they get so upset with not being able to finish. I use a variety of reading choices: read with a partner, round robin, read silently, guided reading,
or listen and follow as the CD (provided by the series) reads the story. After (or during, depending upon the method)the first read I do the TE discussion questions etc. Then I usually complete the first comprehension activity (often a chart or web) together and later in the week have them reread the story in a different way than we read it te first time, and then complete the comprehension
pages.

I find that I just can't do everything and not spend 3 weeks on a story. I usually preview the unit for the tested skills and the ones I know I need for benchmarks and focus on those. Sometimes there is a review and I may not need to do that.

No matter what the curriculum I still think it takes the experience and training of a teacher to make it work.
